The Lucid team just wrapped up an action-packed weekend at The Boardroom Show in California - one of the most respected events on the surf industry calendar.

Every year, the show brings together surfers, shapers and professionals of the surfing industry from around the world to celebrate board design and surf culture. This year’s edition saw a huge turnout - a mix of well-known names and fresh faces making it to the show - the perfect setting to share what we’ve been working on at Lucid.

Coming from our factory in Northern NSW, Australia to one of the world’s leading board-making events felt like a milestone - seeing our boards and collaborations now reaching new heights in the surf world. While in presence of so many skilled builders, we were stoked (and a little humbled) to see how much interest there was in what we do.

Carbon construction boards always get people talking, and it was cool to represent that side of Australian board building industry overseas.

Inside the Show

Across two busy days, we got to talk to a lot of people. One of the boards that drew a lot of attention was the Outer Island Phaza wrapped in carbon, currently ridden by the likes of Harry Bryant and now a popular board model in the Lucid Glassing line-up.

We also spent time chatting with local shapers about the finer details of our process - like the channels on the Free Flight Col Smith model, which drew plenty of attention from those who appreciate how design and craftsmanship.

Highlights

A few standout moments made the weekend even more special. Gerry Lopez stopped by to admire our Lightning Bolt model born from a collaboration with Peter McCabe from Trade Winds Surfboards, and shared some kind words about the build - happy to see a crew of passionate board builders supporting his legacy.

Pro surfer Victor Bernardo also dropped in to grab an Amos Shapes Spitfire V2 foilboard built at Lucid, keen to put it through its paces when he’s not busy touring for the world title.

Seeing the positive reactions to the finer details on each board reminded us why we do what we do, and we came home buzzing. The response to our work was unreal, and we left with a bunch of exciting new connections, including several respected local shapers keen to bring their shapes through our factory. Expect to see new models and collaborations hitting the racks soon.

A huge thanks

We also want to acknowledge and thank our partners and good mates at The Board Source in Carlsbad, who helped us make the trip happen and now have a few of our boards available for anyone keen to grab one locally. If you’re in California and want to check one out, they’re the legends to talk to.

Our first Boardroom Show was one for the books. California showed up in the best way, and we can’t wait to come back next year. To everyone who stopped for a chat, shared stories, or showed interest in what we do.
